The United States of Supercomputers

Without counting secret machines, this is the state of supercomputing in the world: The United States’ government, companies, and universities have more computing power than the rest of the world combined. Each square within each country represents one supercomputer. (gizmodo)

I already knew the basic outlines of these proportions, and can’t say I am surprised by the US’ dominance. I didn’t expect to see Switzerland up there though, nor Saudi. And where are the aussies?

Greyson Chance (12) singing Lady Gaga

So this kid turned up on youtube recently, and quickly became a hit. The video has been up since April 28th, and so far it has close to 18 million views!
Not a Gaga fan myself, but I have no problem in recognising the talent in this twelve-year-old, and neither will you. Greyson has had three years of piano lessons, but never any singing lessons, which is amazing. Enjoy.

Spring cleaning – new look

Wanted to try out a new look for the site, and cleaned out a few bits of extra (useless) functionality while at it.

Feedback appreciated!

The London bus v2.0 due 2012

9906_02_6---Routemaster-Bus--London_webI’ve never been to London myself, nor have I been to England, or any part of the glorious British empire for that matter. Still, I feel like I can relate somewhat to London, like I know it just a bit.
Of course, this has to do with my time in school and time spent watching British television (not so much Eastenders as you’d think). There are a few things that says “England” as first association: Tea and scones, the Mini Morris, the Queen, The Beatles. And then there are things that makes London … London: Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, the Milennium Eye and the London bus. When the old signature red double-deck Routemaster buses was taken out of service in 2005 it didn’t feel right. Since then, London has seen bendy-buses run the routes instead, to much dismay – even internationally.

But soon the red behemoths will once again be seen in the streets of London!
London’s mayor Boris Johnson unveiled “the new bus” today, promising they’ll hit the streets by 2012. They’ll use less fuel, have better ventilation, and will “use the latest green technology” according to Transport For London. Exactly which green technology hasn’t been confirmed. (Gizmodo)

The new Routemaster has kept the naive and hydrocephalic look (google it), but it also looks a bit like a spaceship. Mix old nostalgia with spaceship awesome, a recipe for success guaranteed! I like.

Mind-boggling NASA images and video of the sun

I’m not religious, but I believe in Earth. Still, for Earth to have “believers”, Earth needs to have inhabitants (or colonists elsewhere, but that’s not something to consider, at least not yet). So Earth (or the concept of “Earth” as a pseudo deity) needs an intelligent lifeform, like Man (or the concept dies). And to sustain a lifeform on Earth, or form life, as we know it, we need light. The source of light would therefore become the source of life, and probably the closest thing I get to define as a god.

So if you ask me how I imagine the face of God, here it is:

Oh, oh, oh! There’s even a video!
Warning: if you’re as easily awed as I, this will blow your mind and make you feel very, very insignificant indeed.
